This weekend, the roar of the AMA supercross series is in San Francisco, CA.  Home of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Giants.  With the Oakland Bay Bridge overlooking AT&T Park, San Francisco is one of the more awe-inspiring stops on the Supercross tour...when it is dry.  That has been the problem the last few years, as the SF SX has been marred with rain.  Not just sprinkles, but torrential downpour.  This year, however, the weather gods have smiled upon this great city and have given us a beautiful weekend for racing.

Shaun Skinner is back in action tonight with the BBMX team, as the West coast Lites championship takes to the track after a week off. Skin-dog looks well rested and ready to attack the track tonight.  He is looking to place in the top ten tonight, so keep an eye out for our #65.

Matt Boni feels good about tonight and is looking for a top ten ride.  Boni had some problems in Houston last weekend after a bad start buried him deep in the pack.  Look for the #54 to be aggressive tonight and take it into the top ten.

Jason Thomas was planning to make his "comeback" in San Francisco, but a practice accident during the week has delayed the comeback.  Jason has decided to hold off and let his leg heal one more week.  Look for JT$ at Anaheim III next weekend.

Kyle Keylon is another that is not here today.  His hard  practice crash in Houston last weekend left Kyle in less than ideal shape.  While he still rode Houston, he decided to take the week off to heal up properly and be ready for Anaheim III.

Practice starts at 12:30 today.  Be sure to check back to the BBMX San Francisco race day blog through out the day for updates and photos.

Back to the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team is truck driver Tim Caruso.  Tim re-joined the team last weekend in Houston after taking a vacation to welcome his 1st child into the world during the off season.  Tim is driving the the BBMX lites truck this year and will be joined at the races by his child and long time girlfriend.  Tim is well known throughout the supercross community as the TOP semi driver in the series, winning the annual truck competition in 2008. Welcome back to the team Tim!

It's sunny in San Francisco!

Posted 2:15pm - With practice session one over, the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX riders Shaun Skinner and Matt Boni looked good.  Boni did go down in the whoops, but is ok.  Look for him to come into practice session two ready after making some suspension changes to his CRF450R race bike. Shaun looked good and is apparent that is well rested for tonight's event.

The story of practice session one was in the SX seeded practice.  Chad Reed, on the first lap of practice, overjumped the triple in the right field area and crashed hard into the tuff blocks.  Josh Grant landed on Reed's bike and was thrown into the berm of the turn after.  Both re-mounted and  finished practice.  James Stewart had fastest lap of the first SX practice session, with Reed in second and Windham in 3rd.

In the pits, Bel Ray has joined the BBMX team this weekend and has put up their tent alongside our semis.  The Bel Ray umbrella girls are here joining us in the pit area today.  We also have our BBMX "Vendors Row" set up today.  We have on display merchandise from some of our sponsors; Fly Racing, FMF, Wiseco, StellarMX Graphics, Devol, and Pit Posse are all showing product.

Posted 5:00pm - With second practice session just about finished, BBMX riders Shaun Skinner and Matt Boni are securely into the night show.  Shaun is qualified in the 27th spot, while Boni is qualified 14th. The suspension changes that Boni and mechanic Josh Marsh did in between sessions improved the bike significantly, which gave Boni more confidence in the bike for tonight's race. Boni and Skinner are ready to place their DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX CRF450R in the top ten tonight.

James Stewart stayed in the #1 qualifying spot for tonight's event, with Chad Reed in second and Ryan Villopoto stepped it up in the second practice to qualify 3rd, moving himself ahead of Kevin Windham. In the Lites class, Ryan Dungey is at the top spot with Justin Brayton and Jake Weimer rounding out the top three.

The San Fransisco SX track is going to be a very racey track.  Two sections to watch for this evening is 1) the whoops.  This long section of whoops starts out small, but increase in size at the very end.  It's been giving the riders fits in practice, with Tim Ferry and a few other riders going down at this section. 2) The On-Offs before the finish jump.  This section is a on-off with a switchback in between.  Look for passing in this section, possibly some block pass set ups as this section is right before the finish.  No doubt if there is a tight battle, the rider behind will wait for this section to make an aggressive pass.

With the heats finished, both BBMX riders are going to the LCQ to make the main.  Shaun Skinner collided wih another rider in the Lites heat #2 and was knocked out for a bit.  Shaun was running in 6th spot when he went down.  In the SX class, Matt Boni was running in 5th until a hard charging Chad Reed took his front wheel out, putting Boni on the ground.

The lites heat races were won my Justin Brayton and Jake Weimer.  Weimer had a battle with Ryan Dungey the whole race, but Weimer was able to keep Dungey behind him.  In the SX class, the heat races were won by Josh Grant and James Stewart.

San Francisco was not the night for the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team.  Team rider Shaun Skinner did not race in the Lites LCQ due to the altercation he suffered with Michael Hall of the Star Racing team.  Shaun was checked out by the Asterisk medical team, but decided to sit out the LCQ.

Matt Boni in the LCQ. Boni had to go to the LCQ after an altercation with Kyle Partridge left him out of a transfer spot.

Matt Boni would ride well in the LCQ but could not do better than 4th.  After an altercation in his heat race with Kyle Partrige, Matt was forced to qualify out of the LCQ. Joining Matt in the LCQ was Davi Millsaps, Heath Voss and Nick Way.  After getting a good start, Matt could not reel in the top three and settled into a lonely 4th place.

The team has put San Francisco behind and is looking forward to the thrid and final visit to Angels Stadium in Anaheim.  Boni is ready to tackle the Anaiem 3 course.  The course layout for A3 was designed by the "King" Jeremy McGrath.

By Steve Matthes -

We’re so lucky to be supercross fans in this year of 2008. Think about the days of waiting for Cycle News or ringing up mom and dad’s phone bill calling a 1-900 number to get the results from that night’s supercross. We have live timing and scoring, a webcast and if you have no one around you that likes the sport, you can go to any number of chat rooms and interact with other fans all about the race. It’s awesome to be a fan, and you have really got to love the information superhighway.

Now there’s one team out there taking it to the next level. DNA Energy/BTO Sports.com/Butler Brothers motocross team has started a live blog from each and every round of this year’s Supercross series. You can log on to
butlerbrothersmx.com and find out all about the teams riders and everything else that happened that night.  It’s an exciting move by a team that has always recognized the value of publicity. Forest Butler, the team manager of the team and also a Butler brother, told me that they have tracked the hits from each round and they’ve been growing. He said that it’s just a way for the fans of not only their team but of supercross to see what’s going on that day. There are video interviews on there as well.

Kenny Keylon.  Photo: Chris Weedon

We can read each and every week to see if team rider Kyle Keylon’s dad Kenny whips out his St. Petersburg National 1st place plaque and waves it in Kyle’s face to get him motivated. We’ll be able to catch, in real time, somebody accidentally stepping on Jason Thomas and squishing him. I’m looking forward to the video where they ask people in the pits to pick out which Butler brother is which. The potential is there people! I didn’t know they were doing this but if you’re home on a Saturday night, check it out. It’s another great way to follow the series.

BBMX Semi at Houston

Posted 9:30am - Round 4 of the AMA Supercross series is in Houston, TX today at the Reliant dome.  This was the scene last year of the mega-storm that had torrential downpour and a tornado touch down in the pit area. While this year's weather won't produce a tornado storm, the action inside the Reliant dome is going to be storm-like proportions. The East coast Lites Championship starts here in Houston tonight, where BBMX rider Kyle Keylon will take his three weeks of "practice" in the big bike class into the East Lites championship. Kyle is ready to run up front tonight and the rest of the championship.  In the SX class, Matt Boni is looking for a little redemption after not finishing last weekend's main due to shock failure.

Quick Interview with Matt Boni.

As for the rest of the field, questions will be answered tonight as to who will be the riders to beat in the East Lites field. Don't know who is in the East?  Find out who are the favorites in the East by
clicking here. The SX class, James Stewart is trying for 3 in a row tonight, while Chad Reed is looking to break Stewart's win streak.

Be sure to check our blog throughout the day for updates on the day's racing.

Posted 2:17pm - With 1st practice just about finished, BBMX riders Kyle Keylon and Matt Boni are looking good for tonight's race.  Keylon is sitting in the 17th spot after first practice session, and in the SX class Matt Boni is in the 17th spot after the first session.  Both DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com riders are looking good and will step it up in the next session.

The Houston track is a little different from the track map.  The first turn is really a little sweeper/S-turn section then into the rhythm.  It's going to bottleneck the starts for tonight as it will become really tight.  The Ssep off-off-off is going to be the fun section to watch, as there are two ways developing to get through that section.

In the Lites...Pourcel is look very smooth and I think he is going to show people up tonight.  Metcalf is looking promising as well as Nico Izzi.  In the SX class, Stewart threw down a 48.9 for the fastest lap of Practice, with Reed doing a 49.4. Reed is working on some alternate lines in the session and I think he will be closer to Stewarts time next practice.

-CW

Posted 5:00pm - DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX rider Kyle Keylon will ride tonight after a practice crash in session number two.  Kyle did not sustaian any broken bones, but he will ride tonight.  Kyle was looking good until the crash in the whoops ended his night.

Matt Boni is securely in the field for tonight's race in the 23rd position.  Matt is riding good tonight and look for him to be up front tonight.

In the Lites, Austin Stroupe took the top qualifying spot followed by Christophe Pourcel and Nico Izzi. In the SX class, James Stewart took the top qualifying spot, followed by Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto.  Stewart has about a second over Reed, so a good start is what Reed is going to need tonight.

Kyle Keylon went down in the in the first lap of Heat two, and could not regain any position and had to go to the LCQ.  A bad start hindered Kyle's chance to make the main, as he finished 7th in the Lites LCQ.

Matt Boni overcame a mid-pack start in heat two of the SX class, finishing 9th for the final transfer spot.  Boni battled with Eric Sorby for two laps before taking the final transfer spot from Sorby.

The lites class Main is going to be a good race, with Bret Metcalf winning Lites heat one.  Christophe Pourcel was not that far off Metcalf, as he tried a pass for the lead two times in the race.   Austin Stroupe won Lites heat two after a good battle with Matt LeMoine and Martin Davalos in tow.

In the SX class, Chad Reed walked away for the win in heat one and James Stewart won heat two.  Tonight's SX main is going to be intense if both Stewart and Reed hook up.  We might see the best race of the season tonight since the track is tight and racy.

-CW

Posted 10:15pm - DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX rider Matt Boni placed 15th in the SX main, after starting on the outside part of the gate.  Boni struggled the first few laps to gain a rhythm on the Houston track, but moved up a few positions to finish the main in 15th.  Look for Boni next week in San Francisco to step it up and run in the top ten.

Matt Boni talks about his Houston race

The Lites main saw Christophe Pourcel dominate to take the win with Bret Metcalf and Nico Izzi rouding out the podium.
The SX main saw Ryan Villopoto with the early lead before James Stewart passed and took the win.  Chad Reed did not have a good start and battled through the pack to finish second, with Villopoto hanging on to third.

The series leaves the big state of Texas and heads back west to San Francisco.  Weather will play a part of the San fran round, as weather reports are calling for a wet weekend next week.  Be sure to log on to

The DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team has been featured as the "Team Spotlight of the week" on the Motocross Action website.  Check it out, it's a good read!

http://motocrossactionmag.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=news&mod=News&mid=9A02E3B96F2A415ABC72CB5F516B4C10&tier=3&nid=744A770C54654CBBADF0DDE79EAE011B

In front of 43,000 plus fans at the famous Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim California, round three of the Monster Energy SX series took place and it was a successful one for the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team. Team riders Kyle Keylon, Shaun Skinner and Matt Boni all experienced different results but the team came away happy with the night after all is said and done.

Boni saw himself in the 450 main event via his 7th in the first heat of the night. His night wouldn't go so well because of some freak suspension issues but Matt is one of only fifteen riders to make all three main events this year so far. Skinner was competing in the 250 class and while in 11th in the main, he went down hard and was a lap down by the time he got restarted. He would eventually go on to be scored 18th. Keylon, one of only two riders riding in the 450 class on his smaller 250F failed to qualify but is ready for his 250 debut next week in Houston. "I did ok, I'm happy with how I rode and now because of racing the 450's, I feel more then ready for my east coast 250 debut" Keylon said.

Forest Butler team manager said "Our guys were good but because of crashes and some mechanicals, we didn't have the best results on paper that we deserved. That's racing and we'll go on to Houston where Skinner will ride the 250 in the 450 class, Kyle will line up for his first east coast race and Boni will keep his streak of making the main event alive".

BBMX pits early morning A2.

Posted- 9:37am - It’s a nice and sunny morning here in the pits of Anaheim stadium, where round 3 of the AMA Supercross series is taking place this Sat.  Weather is going to be a very nice 80° today, and in the low 50s for the night show.  Work has already started here in the BBMX pits getting the bikes ready for tech inspection.

Matt Boni spent this past week putting in some hard laps at his practice track in Florida.  He is ready to break his heat race bad luck tonight, so look for him to be charging out of the gate come the night heats.

Shaun Skinner is rested and positive about tonight’s race.  While last weekend’s main wasn’t the result he had hoped for, his run away win in the LCQ gave Skinner confidence going into this weekend’s event.

No doubt everyone has noticed that our BBMX rider, Kyle Keylon has been putting in some “practice” time in the big bike class, taking advantage of the new rule this year.  A recent interview with Steve Matthes, Kyle told Steve that “It’s been okay, really. I’ve been getting out-motored really bad but it’s great for me to get time on the track for when we get to Houston. Nothing replaces actual racing for practice. There’s been nothing that I haven’t been able to jump but have to take a little different lines.”Look for Kyle to get in more seat time tonight, as next week’s Houston round is the start of the East cCoast Lites Championship, where Kyle will be going for points.

DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX would like to welcome back semi driver Andy Willingham back to the team.  After a short hiatus after the US Open, Andy is back with the team for 2009.  "It's good to be back!", he exclaimed as he works hard prepping the trucks and pit area.

Welcome back Andy.
Andy hard at work, enjoying every minute of it.

Tonight’s race is shaping up to be good one.  A “redemption” of sorts as last week, while James Stewart won, it was obvious to everyone watching that his bike was not working as good as it should be. Well the L&M team went back, and team Manager Larry Brooks stopped in at Vitalmx.com’s message boards to let everyone know that they spent all this week testing and think they have got the right set-up for Stewart’s bike.  We’ll see tonight if their hard work will pay off.

Well that’s it for this morning.  Be sure to log back in later this afternoon for BBMX rider updates and practice photos.

Posted 2:43pm - With Practice session one done, BBMX riders Shaun Skinner, Matt Boni and Kyle Keylon look on pace.  Shaun Skinner was 16th in his session after a crash in the technical rhythm section took his momentum.  Matt Boni in the SX class is in 16th as well.  Kyle Keylon is finding his pace on the slow, slippery technical track.

Matt Boni during 1st practice. Photo: Chris Weedon

Ryan Dungey tops the Lites practice charts with a 1:01.5, follwoed by Jlaw and Jake Weimer.  In the SX class, Chad Reed tops the practice charts with a 1:01.7sec lap time while James Stewart struggles with his bike still with a 1:01.8. Stewart went down in the tricky rhythm section and looks to still be fighting the bike.  Ryan Villopoto and Josh Grant round out the top four.

The tricky sections of the track tonight will be the rhythm section, and the off camber corner after the finish.  Look for those two sections to provide the action for tonight.  The whoops are a thrid section, as they are deep this weekend.

-CW

Posted 5:30pm - Well the night show is set.  DNA energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX riders Matt Boni, Shaun Skinner and Kyle Keylon are in the night show.  Matt qualified in the 15th position, while Skinner qualified 19th.  Look for both to be charging in their heat races.

Kyle Keylon qualified for the night show. - Photo: Chris Weedon

Ryan Dungey tops the Lites list with a 1:00.6, a full second over Jlaw.  In the SX class, James Stewart put in a lap under one minute, with at 59.7 sec. lap time to top the big bike class, with Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto rounding the top 3.

Tonight’s track is a very inconsistent track.  With changing conditions and lines, the night show is going to be a race you will not want to miss.  The trouble section still is the rhythm section on the third base side.  The jump on to the table has taken it’s toll on the riders in practice and will be a trouble point of the night.

Tune in after the race for a race recap and photos of the BBMX riders and the action on the track.

Opening Ceremonies, A2

The night racing got underway with a fast lap from Ricky Carmichael, Grant Langston and Jeremy McGrath.

Jeremy McGrath shows the crowd why he is still called "Showtime."  Photo: Chris Weedon

After their hot laps, Heat one for the Lites went off with Shaun Skinner starting in 6th.  Skinner would fall back, but still finish the heat in 9th and a transfer to the main.  In the big bike class, Matt Boni would get out of the gate in 7th and stay there to the end, holding off Troy Adams and Ivan Tedesco. Kyle Keylon would go to the LCQ after finishing 10th in the heat, just missing a spot in the main.  In the LCQ, Keylon did not get the start he needed, and did not qualify.

Matt Boni, Heat race A2

While he did not qualify, his heat race result was his best ride yet in the big bike class.  Kyle is taking advantage of the new rule to run his 250F in the SX class to gain valuable practice for the East coast Lites championship, which starts next week in Houston.

Shaun Skinner would get a 10th place start in the Lites main event, and would move up to 9th, battling with LaPaglia.  On lap 7, Skinner would go down in the tricky section after the finish.  Remounting in last, Skinner would finish the race in 18th.

In the SX class, Matt Boni would again not see the finish of the race, as this week his shock would blow out on him around lap 3.  He was running 13th before he would  pull off the track. Not the result Matt was hoping for after his good ride in the heat.

Next weekend the series moves to Houston.  Be sure to tune in to www.butlerbrothersmx.com again for our "Race Day Blog."  Be sure to check our Anaheim II photo gallery in the next few days.  Till next week, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot!

BBMX Semi

In front of a packed house of 46,000 plus supercross fans, team DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX came out swinging in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series. Team riders Matt Boni, Kyle Keylon and Shaun Skinner all made the show and at the same time showed the rabid fans of supercross that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Boni, who hails from Geneva Florida captured the win in the LCQ to grab the nineteenth spot in the 450 SX main event. Boni would have some bad luck in the main event when his scoring transponder got twisted into his steering stabilizer on his Honda CRF 450 and he was unable to continue. Skinner, from Stuart Florida, made the 250 main event by also winning the LCQ and had a great race going until falling in the sand section, he would eventually finish a very credible fourteenth. Keylon continues to be the only rider to line up against the 450’s on his 250 to gain valuable experience and track time in getting ready for his debut in a few weeks in the east coast 250 series. The Florida native tried his best but was unable to put his bike into the main event.

“I’m happy with our guys finishes” says team manager Forest Butler “Skinner and Boni showed lots of heart and determination to win the last chance qualifiers and Kyle is just out powered out there but never gives up”. As far as the DNF for Boni, Butler realizes that it’s part of racing “It’s something that happens out there in the heat of the battle. We’ve learned why it happened and will make sure it doesn’t”. Round two of the AMA supercross series stops in Phoenix, AZ at the very nice Chase Field.  This weeekend’s track looks really good and has a few sections that will provide some great racing action.  The BBMX team is ready to go and to build on last weekend’s good results. Matt Boni is ready to step up his game, Kyle Keylon is going to take on the big bikes with his 250F, and Shaun Skinner is ready to put in a solid ride.

Morning track walk showed that the track will be the best Phoenix tracks in recent memory.  The challenging sections are going to provide some great racing. The sand section and the whoops are going to be the make it or break it sections.

Check back later this afternoon for more photos from Practice and tonight from the night event.

Phoenix Night show

The night show started around 7:30pm with the rider intros, and then to the heat races.  Shaun Skinner was in the  Lites heat #2.  Skinner got a good start and ran up in the top ten, but missed advancing to the main by one spot, so off to the lcq he went.

The LCQ for Skinner went well from the start, as he rocketed out of the gate and pulled the holeshot on the field. He would pull out about a bike length on Chris Gosselar while the rest of the field would be caught up in a wreck that took out most of the field. Jeff Alessi, Kyle Cunningham and Jason Lawrence were all in the crash, effectively ending their night. Skinner would cruise to a victory in the lcq to secure his main event spot.

The main for Skinner did not start off well, as he could not get the start he needed.  Skinner was running in 10th when he went down in the sand section.  That dropped Skinner down to his finishing spot of 14th.

In the 450s, the heat race saw both Matt Boni and Kyle Keylon racing in the 450s heat #1.  Boni got a good start and was in the top 10, looking to make the moves to advance to the main until he went down.  Boni re-mounted and had a brief battle with teammate Kyle Keylon.  Both would finish out of transfer positions and had to ride the lcq.

In the lcq, Boni followed what teammate Shaun Skinner had just done in the lites lcq, taking the lead from the start and never looking back.  Boni rode solid and never had anyone challenge him for the lead, giving him his second  lcq win in the same number of weeks.

In the 450 main, Boni jumped out of the gate and was in sixth place by the finish of lap one.  Boni would then fall back with bike issues, slowing down and then eventually riding back to the pits.  Boni was feeling good and really starting to like the Phoenix track.

Phoenix saw a good race in the 450s that saw James Stewart holding off the hard charging Chad Reed.  Josh Grant, the winner at the season opener at Anaheim, would pull the holeshot and finish third, making it known that he is a serious threat.  Ryan Villopoto would not get the start he needed to be up front, as he battled mid pack all night.

So the series goes back to Anaheim next weekend for A2, the third round of thr AMA supercross series. If you are going, make sure you stop by the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX semis and say hi, grab a picture with a rider or just to hang out. Ricky Carmichael has five AMA Supercross Championship rings to wear, if only he had room—he also has ten AMA Toyota Motocross rings! We asked the man who won Phoenix a time or two to check out this weekend’s track map and tell us what to expect when the series comes to town. But first, we got his take on Anaheim.

Well the day is finally here.  The start of the 2009 AMA Supercross series will kick off at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA.  The morning is looking a little gloom and much reminiscent of last year's season opener in the rain.  The weather people have assured that the gloomy ligh rain will flee, leaving a perfect night for racing.

There are a lot of questions going into this season.  How will James Stewart do on the Yamaha?  How will Chad Reed do on the Suzuki?  Will Ryan Villopoto be up there battling for the race lead or will he crash himself out?  How will the race program be with the new owners, Feld entertainment?  All these questions will be answered in about 12 hrs. from now when the gate drops for the night show.

Friday was press day.  The last few years, only a select few riders were priviliaged enough to get a early practice session on the track.  This year's press day, all the teams were able to get a session in to learn the new track before Sat. qualifying/practice.  The BBMX riders were out pounding laps, breaking in their new 2009 bikes and getting the track down for today's qualifying session.

The BBMX team worked through the night to get the bikes prepped and ready for today's opening.  The bikes all new look is very sharp but still holds the distinctive "BBMX" look that you can recognize from across the stadium.  Here is a photo of Matt Boni's CRF450 Race bike all dressed up.

Well that is is for right now.  Be sure to check back during the day for practice reports and later tonight for a race report.
If you are heading to Supercross, be sure to stop on by the BBMX semi and say hi.

Practice is set to start at 12:30pm PST.

Matt Boni comes from 7th to win the 450s LCQ.  Boni put on a hard charge to take the win and the 19th spot on the gate for the 450 main. Boni would pass Paul Carpenter. Jake Marsack, and Eric Sorby after starting in 7th.  Boni made some great passes and looked to be riding hard.

*********
Matt Boni put on a hard ride in the main event, fighting for most of the race for 9th, 10th and 11th.  His hard charge in the LCQ would eventually come back to take his steam in the main, as he fell back to 14th.  Matt still put on a great ride for his first 450 Supercross race.  He will be a contender this year.

The 450 main saw an epic battle between James Stewart and Chad Reed.  Both would go back and forth for several laps before Reed tapped into Stewart's rear tire, taking them both down to the ground.  Stewart would take out Kevin Windham in the process of picking his bike up, bending Stewart's shift lever.  That would end Stewart's night, as he retired back to the pits.  The lead was now held by Josh Grant of JGR racing.  Grant held a sizeable lead from Andrew Short and the remounted Chad Reed.  On lap 18, Grant picked up a tough block cover in his rear wheel.  The cover would create a smoke cloud that would slow Grant down, but not enough as he took the win, his first on a 450 and his first for JGR racing.

If this night is any indication, 2009 is going to be a crazy and unpredictable year.

Happy New Year to everyone out in the moto-world. It’s that time again where the US motocross community comes to Southern California for the start of the Supercross season. This year the season starts Jan. 3, 2009 at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA. Last year’s season opener was a mud-fest, as the rain most of the day left the track muddy and less than ideal. This year the weather calls for precipitation early in the morning, but clearing out in the afternoon and great weather for the night show.

Anaheim 2 pit area at night.

The pits at Anaheim.  BBMX semis will again take up a lot of real estate in the pits. Photo: Chris Weedon

The BBMX team will once again have the massive presence in the pits as it did last year with both semis returning. This year we are introducing our “sponsor section” where our great sponsors will have a spot under our awning to showcase their products to the fans. Be sure to stop by and see what is on display.

The BBMX team will have three riders suiting up for Anaheim 1 on Saturday with Kyle Keylon, Shaun Skinner and Matt Boni under the BBMX tent.. Keylon and Skinner are in the lites, and Matt Boni stepping up this year to race the big bike class. With a dominant performance at the Kissimmee SX held a few weeks back, Boni is ready to take on the challenges in the 450 class. Keylon and Skinner also had stellar performances at the Kissimmee SX, with Keylon taking the lites main. Look for both riders to come out riding their A game in the stacked lites West coast class.

Missing from this year’s A1 line up for BBMX is Jason Thomas and Bryan Johnson. Both are out still recovering from off season injuries. Look for both riders to join the team later on in the season, healed up 100% and ready.

BBMX team rider numbers for 2009:
Jason Thomas - #45
Bryan Johnson - #72
Shaun Skinner - #65
Matt Boni - #54
Kyle Keylon - #130

So there is your BBMX team guide for A1.  Make sure you stop on by and say hi the team when you are wandering in the pits on Sat. afternoon, maybe grab a rider signature, talk with the mechanics, check out our "Sponsor Section" or just watch everything that is going on.  See you out at the "Big A."
