 "A new beginning..."
Posted 9:45am -Traveling onward, the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team heads to the city of Indianapolis, IN for round 9 of the AMA Supercross series. The Indianapolis round is a bit of a "rebirth", as the 2009 Supercross series steps inside the newly built Lucas Oil stadium, which replaced the old RCA dome that was torn down a few months ago.
In BBMX team news, Jason Thomas will switch bikes this weekend and ride aboard a CRF250R and compete in the East coast Lites division. JT is having fun this season and wants to try his hand at riding a Lites bike. "It's on like 1999" said a happy JT(referring to the last time he rode in the Lites division). Look for JT to show the kids a thing or two this weekend.
No doubt both Kyle Keylon and Bryan Johnson are looking to redeem themselves from the bad luck that struck both of them last weekend in Atlanta. After both had a great qualifying session(11th and 12th), they would struggle with bad luck in the night program at ATL. Both Kyle and Bryan are fired up this weekend and want to prove that they can back up their qualifying runs with solid rides.
Coming off his 12th place ride, Matt Boni is bringing that momentum with him to Indy and will look to break into the top ten this weekend. Boni has been riding very well as of late and with the series back in the east, Boni feels more comfortable with the tracks and his weekday training regimine. Boni has been getting the bike dialed in closer every weekend, so look for him to ride strong in Indy.

Practice starts at 12:30pm, so check back for all the happenings on and off the track here at Indy.

Posted 11:00am - The pit area in Indy are inside and and the team semis are not allowed inside. This makes the pit area look more like a day at an arenacross than at a Supercross event. Still, the teams are working quick to get the bikes ready for 1st practice.
The Indy track is ready to rock! Photo: Chris WeedonThe track looks very good and should provide some great racing tonight. Upon futher inspection, the track is going to be tough and might give quite a few riders a headache.
The Lucas Oil NHRA Top Fuel Dragsters greet you as you walk into the Lucas Oil Stadium. Photo: Chris WeedonThe Lucas Oil stadium is beautiful. It's awe-inspiring size is a perfect place to hold a Supercross. This stadium was built for motorsports events, and Lucas Oil reminds you at every step that this is a house built for everything with a motor. Tonight, it will host the thunder of Supercross.
With track walk done and the riders suiting up, the track is looking to be the best track of the season. The sand section is back tonight as is the high stick meter on an inside corner double. "The track is knar-knar" exclaimed an excited Bryan Johnson, who is looking to change his luck and actually ride his way to the main tonight. Below are a few track walk pics.
With practice starting up at 12:30pm here in Indy, everyone is preparing to take to the track for the first time here in the Lucas Oil Stadium. Log back and check in for all the happenings in practice.

Posted 2:45pm - With the practice sessions done, BBMX riders Bryan Johnson, Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas are firmly in the field. Bryan topped his qualifying session and put himself in the 13th qualifying spot, while Jason Thomas topped his Lites qualifying spot and is sitting in the 19th spot. Kyle Keylon followed JT and is in the 22nd qualifying spot.

Matt Boni took to the track in the SX qualifying A group and threw down a good session to qualify in the 24th spot. Boni is looking for a top ten tonight, and the track suits his style.

The rest of the field...In the lites Christophe Pourcell is sitting on the top spot with teammate Austin Stroupe behind him by a tenth of a second difference. Matt Lemoine is in the third spot. In the Sx class, James Stewart ran a lap at 49.3 sec to sit in the top spot for now. Chad Reed is 5/10ths of a second back in second with a 49.8 and Josh Grant is in the third qualifying spot with a 51.0.
Can Reed take it to Stewart tonight? Photo: Chris Weedon
The attention this weekend was set on the SX B group session, as Jason Lawrence moved up to the Sx class. He looked smooth and rode around to grab the 10th qualifying spot.
How will JLaw do tonight? Sitting in 10th qualifying spot is a good start. Photo: Chris Weedon
The second practice session will start in about 3:30pm. Be sure to log back in and check out the happenings from session two.

Posted 5:00pm - With the practice sessions done, BBMX team riders Jason Thomas, Bryan Johnson and Kyle Keylon are comfortably seated in the night event. JT qualified 12th, Bryan in the 20th spot and Kyle is sitting in the 27th position. All three looked fast and ready for tonight. "I'm just having fun out there" an excited Jason Thomas said after pulling off the track.

Matt Boni is qualified for the night show solidly. Matt went out in the second practice session and bettered his lap time from the first practice session and is sitting in the 17th qualifying spot. Boni is enjoying the track and the rhythm sections. Look for Boni to be battling up front tonight.
The rest of the field, Christophe Pourcell held on to his top qualifying spot in the lites class, with Martin Davalos and Matt Lemoine rounding out the top three. In the SX class, James Stewart is on top with Davi Millsaps and Josh Hill stepping it up in the second practice session to round out the top three. Chad Reed is sitting in the fourth spot. The surprise is Jason Lawrence pulled it together and put his bike into the 5th qualifying spot. JLaw has now shown he has the speed, but can he survive through the heat races? We will see in a few hours.
The stage is set for tonights race. It should be a great night of racing here in Indy. Opening ceremonies will start at 7pm. Be sure to check out the BBMX Indianapolils Photo gallery. Just click on our Photo section or the link below.

Kyle Keylon makes the Lites main tonight in Indy. Photo:Chris Weedon
Kyle Keylon makes the main event with a great ride in his heat to finish 7th. In heat two, a first lap crash took both Bryan Johnson and Jason Thomas out of a qualifying spot and will had to go to the LCQ. A bad start killed Bryan's chance to make the main and JT came up just a bit short, finishing 4th in the LCQ.
Matt Boni rode his heart out after a first turn crash and finished in the final transfer spot in 9th. Boni is looking good tonight and it could be the night he puts it together for a top 10 finish.
The SX heat races saw great battles up front, with Davi Millsaps taking the win in heat one, after battling with both Mike Alessi and Ryan Villopoto. In SX heat two, a battle broke out between James Stewart and Chad Reed, with Stewart gaining the upper hand and winning the heat.

In the lites heat one Wil Hahn took the win after Austin Stroupe took ran into the back of early leader Martin Davalos and both had to come from the back. In heat two, Nico Izzy won with ease.
The mains are set and both lites and the SX class are going to great. The jump right after the whoop section is providing a lot of action and passing opportunities.
The Jagermiester Freestyle team just had one of their riders crash at the end of the Backflip train. The rider is ok though and is walking away.

The start of the Lites main, take one. Photo: Chris Weedon Posted 10:30pm - The Lites main had to be re-started as a first turn crash took out over half the field. Along in the crash was Martin Davalos, who could not come back to the gate for the restart as his bike was too twisted up and our own BBMX rider Kyle Keylon. After the restart, Kyle rode a very consistant race and stayed out of trouble to score 10th place in the lites main. This is Kyle first main event this year and what a way to end the night, in 10th. Congrats Kyle!
Congrats to Kyle for finishing 10th. Photo: Chris Weedon
The SX class saw BBMX rider Matt Boni get a mid-pack start and struggle to stay in the top 10. Matt would battle with Tim Ferry, Nick Wey and Davi Millsaps. He would end up finishing in 12th position again for the second week in a row. This is Boni's third 12th this season and is looking to ride to a top ten at Daytona next weekend.
Matt Boni placed 12th for the second week in a row. Photo: Chris Weedon
The lites class was another Pro-Circuit run away with Austin Stroupe finally getting the win over his teammate Christophe Pourcell. In the SX class, Chadd Reed would grab the holeshot and run off with the lead. James Stewart would battle a mid pack start and a early crash that put him back in 5th. Stewart would catch and pass Reed at the half way point, but Reed did not fall back. He pressured Stewart into a mistake and Stewart crashing with 5 laps to go. Reed regained the lead and took it to the checkered flag to take the win here in Indy.
The racing was exciting and unpredictable tonight from the Mike LaRocco designed track. Both Austin Stroupe and Chad Reed rode strong to take the wins here tonight. With the series packing up and moving to sunny Daytona FL next weekend for the Daytona SX, anything can happen. Thank you for logging in tonight to the BBMX rIndy race day blog and be sure to log in next week for the BBMX Daytona Race day blog. Remember, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot.

Racerxonline.com : Privateer Profile: Matt BoniPresented by Sponsorhouse.com By Billy Ursic Geneva, Florida’s Matt Boni is quietly having the best season of his young career. No, he’s not vying for wins, podiums, or even top-fives, but the 21-year-old has made all but two main events so far in the AMA Supercross class—a 12th being his best finish. Boni is a member of the DNA Energy/BTOSports.com/BBMX Honda squad, and we caught up with him as he was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the cops after being involved in a slight fender bender.
1 Racer X: How bad is it? Matt Boni: It’s not too bad. I’ve got a big F250. My truck is fine; a little better than his! Well, we’re at the halfway point of the supercross series; are you above or below where you thought you’d be? Um, a little bit below. I was really hoping to definitely make every main. I’ve only missed two. I was also hoping to break into the top ten a few times. Now that we’re back on the East coast, I think that’s going to happen. My goal was just to survive the West coast! [Laughs] I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, and that’s not my strong suit. This is the second weekend back east, so I’m really excited about it. What happened in those two races where you missed the main event? Just poor starts, really, and ran out of time. In San Fran, the LCQ was pretty much like a main event—it was stacked, and it’s not that I can’t beat those guys, but it just wasn’t my night. Do you wish that they still ran the old format with heats and semis? I never raced that, so I’m not really sure, but I think the more chances you have would be better, because sometimes unexpected things do happen. Are you happy with your decision to move up to the Supercross class? Absolutely! I had the opportunity to move up last year, but I just decided I wasn’t ready yet maturitywise to run seventeen weekends in a row. I think this year I’m making really good decisions—mature decisions—that are bettering my career every weekend. What’s the biggest difference for you between a Lites main and a Supercross main? It’s only five laps more, but it feels like it’s an eternity! [Laughs] Everyone says that, but it really is! It’s a different mindset. I learned a lot last year and really found some speed, and I truly believe I had a few top five rides in me, but I made some bad passing decisions and ended up taking out myself, along with some other great riders and ruining their shots last year. I learned a lot about passing last year, and I learned a lot about just waiting for the right time. That five laps kind of gives you that extra time to make those decisions. How difficult is it, mentally, to look over and see yourself lined up next to Ryan Villopoto or James Stewart or Chad Reed? I don’t think I’ve been in front of Chad Reed for more than two laps this year, but it is tough. It’s kind of a shock, almost. At the first few rounds, I was sitting on the line and I’d look over and see Kevin Windham next to me. I remember being on 80s watching the 1998 Houston Supercross and seeing him sweep it on his Yamaha. And it’s almost shocking, but it feels awesome, because I never thought in a million years that I’d be fast enough to be pro, and let alone be fast! 1 You have two 12th-place finishes in a row now. What’s it going to take to break into that top ten? I think it’s just going to take a good start and me being there the first eight laps. My endurance is there, and my bike is sharp enough to be there the last five laps. I think the first half of my race has to be a little bit stronger, a little more aggressive, and I have to push some people around and make my own lines. What do you think about your fellow statesman, James Stewart? Is he going to sweep the rest of them? I guess the right answer would be, No, I’m going to win! [Laughs] But yeah, he’s unbelievable this year. It looked like he was struggling a bit at the beginning, but what can you say about him that hasn’t already been said? So you learned a lot. It’s been a whirlwind experience, definitely. Every weekend I learn so much and I feel I get stronger. Even if I don’t have the best main or if something happens, I’m still going back to the drawing board during the week and sharpening my pencil. How’s everything with the team? The team is good. We’re doing the best with what we have. Obviously, it would be nice to be on a factory team, but I’m working really hard and keeping my head down and I feel my results speak for themselves. Speaking of turning heads, you did that last year at the Daytona supercross, when you podiumed in the Lites class. Yeah, that was awesome! It definitely helped advance my career. I’m just taking it one race at a time right now, so I’m just focused on Indy.
Who do you want to thank, Matt? I’d really like to thank my dad and my mechanic for sticking behind me; MXers for Jesus and Kevin Cozadd and that entire family, and all of my sponsors for sticking behind me and giving me the support to do my job.

DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX Hot-lanta Race ReportAtlanta, Georgia- The AMA Supercross tour moved eastward to the beautiful city of Atlanta and the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX racing team had some good luck, some bad luck and some stuff happen that didn’t affect them in the least that we won’t talk about.Team rider Matt Boni tied his career best finish in the 450 class with a twelfth. Boni, from the beautiful metropolis of Geneva Florida, was on it all night and has impressessed everybody in the sport with his great rides. His bike is working top notch as he is one of the best non-factory sponsored riders in the series and you don’t get there without a great machine. WMI provides the engine and suspension package for the whole team and we thank him for that.“I’m feeling really good this year and I enjoy racing with guys that are making forty times what I’m making and their bikes that cost a hundred times what mine does” remarked Boni. “Let’s keep it rolling” was all team manager Forrest Butler had to say.
Bryan Johnson back on the bike. Photo: Chris Weedon
The team’s 250 riders, Kyle “don’t call me Kenny” Keylon and Bryan Johnson were easily in the top fifteen in the qualifying times but suffered some bad luck as they were both running in the top five in the 250 LCQ when a red flag came out. On the re-start, both riders crashed in the first turn proving that the moto gods won’t let the same thing happen twice in the highly competitive 250 class.

We would also like to announce that our star rider, Jason Thomas has decided to switch to the 250 east coast region for the rest of the series. We think that our little tiny warrior feels at home on the tiny bikes and who are we to stop that from happening?

Posted 9:30am - With the west coast swing of the Supercross series taking a break, the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team heads to the dirty south and the city of Atlanta, GA for round 8 of the AMA Supercross series. Atlanta is the 2nd east coast round of the series, as Houston was round one a few weeks back. The east coast fans are ready to see some Supercross action, and will pack the Georgia Dome to near capacity Saturday night.
In BBMX team news, Jason Thomas will make is official return to the Supercross series this weekend in Atlanta. Last weekend in San Diego, JT qualified 33rd but opted to sit out the night show due to his leg still not feeling 100%. Another rider set to make is return is Bryan Johnson. Bryan is coming back from breaking his neck during an off season practice crash. He is healed up and ready to go. He comes back at Atlanta, where he placed 7th back in 2007 the SX class. Bryan has moved to the Lites class and will join fellow teammate Kyle Keylon on the gate of the East coast lites championship. Look for both Bryan and Kyle to be up front in the Lites standings. Kyle Keylon will be back in the Lites class this weekend, as the east coast Lites championship picks back up. Look for Kyle to run strong as all the practice he has been getting in the big bike class has defiantly given him the edge. Matt Boni is looking to turn over a new leaf this weekend as the east coast leg starts up. The West coast races have been up and down for Boni so look for him to run where he should be as the series heads to more familiar grounds.
The track this weekend features a very long start straight and a return of the sand section that we haven't seen much of this year. While the track isn't as technical, the Georgia dirt is what makes this track. This is considered the best dirt in all of Supercross.
Atlanta track map, click here for more track notes
In other supercross news, James Stewart will go for another win tonight, as Chad Reed tries to break Stewart's winning streak. Josh Grant is racing tonight, although he was a maybe after his nasty crash last weekend in San Diego. Brock Hepler is good to go tonight as well, as he took the week off to let his wrist heal from the crash he suffered at San Diego as well. Look for Davi Millsaps to run up front once again, as this is his home race and is very familiar with the Atlanta dirt.
Bike prep is underway here at the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX semi, and the bikes will be ready for practice kick-off at 12:30pm est. The pit area is indoors this weekend, the first of the indoor pit areas this year. If you head out to the Georgia Dome this afternoon, make sure you head over to the Supercross Pit party and grab yourself the new BBMX team posters.

Posted 11:45am - With track walk done, the Atlanta Supercross track is going to be a great track for racing tonight. There are two rhythm sections that will give the riders a few options to get through. A very long start straight and a sand section make this Atlanta track unique from the others this year. Check out the photos from track walk and be sure to log back in after practice for more Atlanta race info.

Posted 3:00pm - First set of practices are done and the BBMX riders of Kyle Keylon, Bryan Johnson, and Jason Thomas are in the top 40. Matt Boni had a chain snap in the first few laps of his practice session, so he did not put together a run for a qualifying spot.
Kyle Keylon led his practice session and is sitting in 14th overall, with Bryan Johnson in the 4th spot of the same session and is in 20th overall. JT had a good session, but is making some biek adjustments for the next session.
The sand section is deep and robbing the lites bikes of power, the rhythm sections are providing some great action. The track is fast and traction is everywhere.
In the rest of the field, Christophe Pourcell ran the fastest lap time in the Lites class, and James Stewart posted the fastest lap in the SX class, followed by Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto.
Second practice session is set to take off in about 30 min, so keep it logged on to www.butlerbrothersmx.com for your Atlanta Race action. -CW Posted 5:15pm - BBMX riders Kyle Keylon and Bryan Johsnon qualified 11th and 12th for the night show in the Lites class. Both were going back and forth for the top spot in their qualifying session before Kyle put in the faster lap at the end. Both are on fire and ready to take on the East coast championship tonight.
Jason Thomas and Matt Boni set their places in the night show with JT in the 24th position and Boni coming back after a chain broke in his first session to post the 20th fastest time. Both are confident and really like the track, so look forward to them running in the top ten.
In the lites class, Christophe Pourcell retains the top spot with Stroupe and Martin Davalos rounding out the top three. In the SX class, James Stewart sits in the top qualifying spot while Chad Reed and and Ryan Villopoto round the top three.

Posted 9:15pm - With the heats and the LCQs done, the mains are about to come up next. Here is a race recap of the Heats and LCQ.

Bryan Johnson in his heat race would place 10th. Photo: Chris Weedon Kyle Keylon and Bryan Johnson had to head to the LCQ after not making it through the heats. Kyle Keylon was running in 7th in heat one before going down on the dragonback right before the finish. His bike was too bent up to finish the heat. Bryan rode well, but fell short by one spot and finished 10th heat 2. The LCQ saw a red flag thrown on the first lap after the 30 second girl flubbed the start. Bryan Johnson pulled a second place start, but it was for not as they had to line up again and start the LCQ all over. The restart did not fair well for both Bryan and Kyle, as both did not get off the line well, and were caught up in multi-bike crash at the first jump that took out Kyle Keylon. Bryan had no where to go and was held up. Bad luck struck the BBMX lites team tonight, but both Kyle and Bryan showed their potential and will be back next week in Indy hungry.
In the SX class, Matt Boni pulled a an 8th place out of his hat to transfer straight to the main. Boni, looking good, was on Mike Alessi's rear rear wheel and was pressuring for 7th. Boni played it safe to tranfer. Jason Thomas had some bad luck at the start and was buirried in the back of the pack for 15th. He would go to the LCQ where he would be tangled in a first turn altercation that would place him in the back of the pack. JT would finish the LCQ in 12th. While JT had back luck tonight, this was the first time back on the bike and is looking better and better each week. Look for him to redeem himself in Indy next week.
The lites heat races were won my Austin Stroupe and Christophe Pourcell. Pourcell pulled about a 5 bike length lead in the first lap of the heat! He is going to be the one to beat come the main. Th SX heats were won by Chad Reed and James Stewart. Both looked to be riding very strong and if Reed can get a start, he will give Stewart some competition tonight.
The LCQ's were won by Nico Izzy in the lites and Charles Summy in the SX class.
The main event are coming up soon, right after the frestyle exhibition. Stay tune...it should be a good one. -CW
Matt Boni in the SX main. Photo: Chris Weedon Posted 10:30pm - DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX rider Matt Boni rode with smart tonight and consistant to place 12th in the SX main event. After running the first half of the race in in 15th, Matt dug deep and made the passes he needed to get into the 12th spot. With 11th a straight away ahead, Matt rode smart and crossed the finish line at the end of twenty laps in the 12th spot. "I finally rode like I know I can" exclaimed an excited Boni. Look for Matt to bring his momentum from Atlanta into next week's round in Indy.
The lites main event was won By Christophe Pourcell, but not because he ran away. The first half of the race was dominated by Austin Stroupe. Stroupe would pull 5-6 bike lengths on Pourcell until a stall after the finish line jump gave the lead and win to Pourcell. Nico Izzy would finish second and Marin Davalos would put in a last lap pass on Blake Wharton to finish in 3rd.
The SX main was dominated by James Stewart, but the battle was behind him for 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed would swap back and forth for 2nd with Reed claiming the position from RV. RV would finish the main in 3rd.
The series packs up and heads to Indianapolis and the new Lucas Oil Dome for round 9 of the AMA Supercross series. Till next weekend, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot. -CW

San Diego, California- The teams showed up at round seven of the AMA Supercross series in San Diego ready to get on with the grind of racing and for the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team, the term grind really was appropriate. Team riders Matt Boni, Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas did not make the 450 main events. JT actually decided to sit out the night due to his leg being a bit sore after practice. Both the team and Jason are trying to play it as safe as they can with his return. In the heat race Boni, who is one of the top privateers this year, missed out on qualifying by two spots and Keylon finished sixteenth. That wasn't too bad as there was still a last chance qualifier and the two riders were more than ready because we force fed them DNA Energy Drink right before they went out. The drama was high and you could cut the tension with a knife (or at least a screwdriver).

It was not too be however as Boni fell in the first turn and was far back on the first lap. He rode hard to catch up to eighth, finishing right on Factory Yamaha's Josh Hill in seventh...yes folks, it was another multi-million dollar LCQ (note to self-suggest to promoters to bring back semi races). The bright side to the whole night is that it's over and that Boni is still an impressive seventtenth in the points. He only lost one sport from his DNQ. Not only that but the team gets to start back up on the east coast in front of an almost hometown crowd in Atlanta. "My mama said there would be days like this and she was right" remarked team manager Forrest Butler and at that point we had to wrestle the safety wire away as he was trying to make a noose. ; BBMX pit area at 9:30am. Photo: Chris Weedon Posted 9:30am - This weekend, the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team takes the hour and a half trip south from Anaheim to the beautiful city of San Diego, CA for round 7 of the AMA Supercross series. San Diego marks the last round for the West coast swing until April 18th when we visit Seattle, WA. What better way to finish off the first half of the AMA Supercross series than to come into America's Finest City. After last weekend's almost race in the rain, the early weather reports indicated that San Diego was going to get monsoon-like weather this weekend. Well, the moto gods have smiled upon us and the skies are sunny with a few scattered clouds. Best thing...no rain is in the forcast for today and tonight. In BBMX team news, Matt Boni will be looking to back up his solid 12th place ride last weekend with a ride in the top ten here in San Diego. BBMX riders Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas will indeed be back in action this weekend in the dry conditions. Both were slated to come back last weekend, but the rain and the muddy conditions made them both think twice and opted to sit out. Shaun Skinner is not racing tonight. Shaun has recovered from being landed on in San Francisco a few weeks back, but is still nursing some side effect issues. Where last weekend's track was designed by Jeremy McGrath and had a very 90's technical feel to it, this weekends track in San Diego was designed by San Diego local and 80's Supercross star Rick Johnson. RJ has designed a very 80's feeling track, from the sweeping first turn to only one regular SX triple, the track snakes its way across the floor of the Q without the typical look of modern day tracks.

 In tribute to Jeremy Lusk.
No doubt Jeremy Lusk is still on everyone's mind and in their hearts. Andy Harrington is walking around the pits today with Jeremy Lusk memorial armbands. Any donations are appreciated and go directly to the Lusk family.

Team prep is underway here in the DNA Energy/BTOsports.com/BBMX pit area, so be sure to check back throughout the day for team updates and happenings going on on and off the track here from sunny San Diego.

Posted 11:45pm - With track walk and the riders meeting just about done, the riders are just about ready to take to the San Diego track for the first practice session of the day. The track has a mix of wet spots and really dry spots, as the track was covered throughout the night. Track workers are watering down the track, but the San Diego dirt is known to dry out quickly under the sun. The first turn looks more like a flat track turn, which should be tricky when it drys out.

If you are heading down to the Q, make sure you check out Strung Out on the music stage in the pits. San Diego is the last stop on Stung Out's Supercross tour, so be sure to catch them in the pits today. They will go on around 4pm.
Practice starts at 12:30pm today, so be sure to check back for practice report from the "Q."

Welcome Back JT$! Photo: Chris Weedon
With the first practice session just about done, BBMX riders Matt Boni, Jason Thomas and Kyle Keylon are all in qualifying position. Boni is sitting in 17th, Jason is in 33rd and Kyle is sitting in 37th. Boni is looking good and comfortable, so look for him to move up a few spots in the next qualifying session. This sessio marks the first time we have seen Jason Thomas on the bike this year. JT is looking good and is looking to move up in the standings. He is making some changes to his bike for practice session two. Kyle Keylon, while riding his CRF250R in the SX class once again, looks good and is ready to take on the big bikes.
James Stewart, Practice session one. Photo: Chris Weedon
James Stewart is sitting pretty at the top of the SX class charts, almost a full second faster than Chad Reed and Josh Grant. In the Lites class, Ryan Dungey is at the top, followed by Jake Weimer and Justin Brayton.
A few notes:
A few riders are making their comeback this weekend. Our own Jason Thomas, Michael Byrne, and Brock Helper are all back on the track. All looked good and ready to do battle.
The track is quite a bit different than what was on the track map. The switchback going across the start straight is no longer a part of the track as well as the A/B S turn that was illustrated on the track maps. Track is very technical, and as of the end of first session, drying out quick. In a few spots the track was showing "blue groove" that is characteristic of the dirt here in and around San Diego.
Practice 2 starts at 3:45pm today, so be sure to check back for practice2 report and photos from the "Q."

Matt Boni qualified 20th for tonight's race. Photo: Chris Weedon
With the last practice session done, BBMX team riders Matt Boni, Jason Thomas and Kyle Keylon are in the night show. Boni qualified in the 20th position, while JT$ is in the 34th spot and Kyle is in 33rd position in the SX class. All BBMX riders are looking strong and the track is working in nicely. Look for the BBMX team to be up in the mix tonight.
In the SX class, James Stewart takes the top qualifying spot with a 46.2 sec lap time, and Davi Millsaps comes in second with a 48.2 and Josh Hill with a 48.3 sec lap time, Josh Grant and Chad Reed round out the top 5. In the Lites class, evn a late practice cras could not stop Ryan Dungey from the top qualifying spot, with Jake Weimer and Justin Brayton rounding the top three.
The track is working in nicely, as the track crew put down some water in between the sessions, mixed with the sun going down will make for a very moist track. Look for some good racing to develop on the San Diego track.
The field is set for tonight's event. Opening ceremonies start at 7:30pm tonight, so be sure to check back tonight for race report and photos from the "Q."

-CW Posted 9:00PM - A bad start for BBMX rider Matt Boni cripled Boni and could not move forward. Boni would finish 11th and head to the LCQ. Kyle Keylon would also fight a bad start and finish 16th and heads to the LCQ along with Boni. Jason Thomas, although he did qualify, did not ride tonight as his leg was still not feeling 100%.
James Stewart passes Ryan Villopoto for the lead in Heat #2 of the SX. Photo: Chris Weedon
In the SX class, the heat races were won by Andrew Short and James Stewart. Heat one saw Davi Millsaps take the early lead, but a crash gave the lead to Michael Byrne, with Andrew short in tow. Short passed Byrner for the lead and took the checkered flag. In heat two, the James Stewart nabbed the holeshot, followed by Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed. Reed got past Villopoto and took chase after Stewart. Stewart crossed the finish line with a 4 second lead over Reed and Villopoto.
The LCQ saw Matt Boni and Kyle Keylon blast off the gate. Paul Carpenter would push Boni off the track in the first turn, effectively ruining Boni's chances to make the main. Kyle would get caught up in the first turn incident and fall to the back of the pack. Boni would make a charge, but could only manage an 8th place. Kyle would finish 14th.
Tonight was not a good night for the DNA Energy/BTOsports.com/BBMX team. The team packs up and heads back east to Atlanta Georgia Dome.
The mains are coming up next. Be sure to check back for results and photos from the main.

DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX's Boni (almost) Beats Everybody at A3 Anaheim California- At the sixth round of the AMA Supercross series held for the third time at Angel Stadium, DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team rider Matt Boni raced his way to a 12th place in the 450 main event. It was a great showing and further cemented Matt's position as one of the top privateers in this year's series. Right before the heat race Boni, from Geneva Florida, took a swig of DNA Energy drink and went out to battle with motocross legend Kevin Windham, the two swapping positions back and forth. At one point Boni tripled over Windham and Travis Preston which meant that he leaped over two moto legends at one time and cemented his place in history.
At least we like to think so.He would eventually grab a transfer spot after getting banged around a bit by KW and get into the main event, which isn't always the easiest thing to do. Ask Ryan Villopoto or Tim Ferry. Once in the main, our guy Matt raced hard on the treacherous track and eventually finished twelfth. He tried his best and isn't that what our moms always said to do?"I felt pretty good, it was nice to get my season best result and I'm looking forward to jumping over the heads of more guys soon" said Boni after the race.

Before we go, the entire BBMX family would like to send out our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of FMX Icon Jeremy Lusk. Jeremy passed away due to complications from a crash sustained Saturday evening in Costa Rica. What we all do with racing and freestyle has its risks, however a tragedy like this is very unfortunate. Lusk's memory will live on as one of the best FMX riders forever in our hearts. Our prayers also go out to our friend Leighton Lillie who suffered a very serious back injury this past weekend at the Tulsa Arenacross. Leighton's spinal cord was not severed in the accident and the nerves in his legs reacted to stimulus. However, Leighton still has a tough road ahead of him and we wish him the best on his recovery. He already has been, and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. There's no way that DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX can go racing without the help of their sponsors and would like to thank the following companies: DNA Energy Drink, BTOSports.com, Rick Case Honda, FLY Racing, Bel-Ray, WMI suspension & motors, Vortex, FMF, Wiseco, Smith, Stellar Mx, ASMF, ICW, Dunlop, QTM / Talon, RK, Applied, CV4, Twin-Air, MX Press, Sponsorhouse, Polisport, Devol, ASV, Pit Posse, Ogio, Leatt Brace, Alpinestars, Engine Ice, Kinetic Animation, Group D, Seminole Tribe Mx, FLmx, VP Racing fuels

The A3 track under tarps to protect it from the rain here in SoCal. Photo: Vitalmx.com
This weekend, the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team is back in Anaheim, CA for the third and final time to Angels Stadium, for round 6 of the AMA Supercross series. This weekend is going to be interesting in a lot of ways. 1) The track for A3 was designed by the "King" himself, Jeremy McGrath. Jeremy was known as a very technical rider, so it is no surprise the track that he has designed is one of the more technical tracks in the series thus far. The track is nothing but one big rhythm section. This type of track is a throwback to the mid 90's style track, where McGrath was very dominant. 2) The weather is calling for ....RAIN on Saturday. Yup, rain is in the forcast for this weekend, which will make a tricky track even trickier.

To have made it this far into the season without rain has been astonishing since by this time last year we had already had 3 mud races. BBMX rider Matt Boni is looking forward to the mud, as last year he proved that he is a mud expert, giving himself and BBMX's first ever podium at Daytona. Jason Thomas will be out at A3, suiting up and ready for battle. After sitting out last weekend's race in San Francisco(where his return was suppose to happen), JT will be back under the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX tent.
Anaheim 3's track is vastly different than the slow, one lined track we saw in San Francisco. Precision is the word for the weekend on this track. Click here for the Anaheim III track map.
Matt Boni's mechanic, Josh Marsh turns 21 today! Come by the BBMX pit area today and wish Josh a happy 21st. The team decided to take Josh out to Hooters last night for a big birthday bash. As you can see...we made him feel very special! Happy birthday Josh!
Check back during the day for practice reports, heat race, main event reports and as always photos from the days events.

Posted 11:05am - With the rain coming down as the sun peaks from the clouds every now and then, the usual practice time of 12:30pm is now pushed back. AMA has told riders that track walk will now be at 5pm this evening. This means that there will be one practice session and then straight to the night show. With all this free time, the riders will have a lot of time to sign autographs and take photos with all of the fans.
The BBMX pit area Sat. morning, 11:45am. Photo: Chris Weedon
Anaheim III is going to remind the riders of Daytona '08. The rain is not going to stop tonight and if the weather reports are correct, the rain is going to get worse! This is going to be a survival race, but one that you don't want to miss.
Boni talks about mud racing. Click above to listen. Be sure to log back into the BBMX race day blog later this afternoon for more photos and interviews with the BBMX riders. -CW
Posted 3:35pm - With the rain coming down still, the pit area is the place to be. With the rain schedule, fans have more time to meet and greet their favorite riders and take a photo with them. The rain let up for a brief couple of hours with the sun shinning down. But the rain has come back as of 3:30pm and it looks like it will stay with us till the night show. The rider's track walk will be around 4:30pm, with one qualifying practice session following.
BBMX rider Jason Thomas with some of his fans. Photo: Chris Weedon
BBMX riders Jason Thomas and Kyle Keylon are going to sit out tonight's race, electing to save their equipment and themselves from the mudfest tonight. Matt Boni will be the lone DNA Energy/BTOsports.com/BBMX rider in the show tonight. Matt is a skilled mud rider, and is ready to tackle the track.
With the extra time the rain schedule makes for a crazy time in the pit area.

Posted 5:30pm - With track walk done and practice about to go off, the track looks to be in good shape, with a few muddy corners. The jumps all look good and with the rain being very light at the moment, should make for a good practice session.

Posted 6:55pm - With the only practice sessions done, We are about 20 min away from opening ceremonies. BBMX riders Matt Boni and Kyle Keylon took to the track in the SX practice session. The track looks quite good, with a few corners that were still muddy. As of this writing, the Dirt Werx crew is quickly making those corners perfect.

James Stewart is a full 2 seconds faster than everyone on this technical track. No doubt that Chad Reed, Josh Grant and Ryan Villopoto will step it up tonight.

The start of the SX heat #2 where Matt Boni placed 7th.. Photo: Chris Weedon
Posted 8:45pm - With the heats over, BBMX rider Matt Boni securely makes it into the main with a 7th place finish in the SX heat 2. Matt was running as high as 5th, when an altercation with Kevin Windham pushed him off the track. Kyle Keylon decided not to ride tonight and save his energy and equipment for next weekend in San Diego.
Matt Boni in SX heat #2. Photo: Chris Weedon
Davi Millsaps and James Stewart won the SX heats, while in the Lites Ryan Dungey and Jake Weimer won their heat races. The rain has gone for the night, and the track is worked in really well. The main events should be good races tonight.
Posted 1:55am - As the gate dropped on the SX main, DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX rider Matt Boni rounded the first turn in 9th place. Matt would battle throughout the main with Nick Wey and Tim Ferry and eventually finish a respectable 12th place. Even as the rain started to come down hard the last 7 laps of the main, Matt would stay strong. "It was the knarliest track I have ever ridden. The rain was intense" said Boni of riding the last 7 laps in the rain. Matt gained valuable points at A3 to move him up to 16th in the overall points standings.
Matt Boni pulling a tear-off as teh rain pours down in the SX main. Photo: Chris Weedon
The Lites main saw an epic battle early between Justin Brayton and Jake Weimer. Weimer would eventually pass Brayton for good on lap 6. Weimer's teammate Ryan Morias would pass Brayton next and the last lap Morias would try a pass for the lead on Weimer that did not stick. Weimer would finish in 1st, followed by Morias and Brayton. In the SX class, James Stewart would get the lead from the start and would lead flag to flag for the win. Chad Reed would get stuck in a mid pack start and had to play catch up to Stewart. Davi Millsaps would have his best ride of the season at Anaheim III, finishing on the podium in 3rd.
The weather held off until the last 7 laps of the SX main, where it would come down hard and make the track very slick. Chad Reed had to pull his goggles off on the last lap because he could not see anymore. The track proved to be very technical and along with the mud gave the riders the most demanding track of the season so far.
The AMA supercross series heads down the freeway next weekend to San Diego, CA, where the early weather reports are calling for...you guessed it...rain! Will we have the mud race that we were expecting this weekend in San Diego next weekend? Be sure to log in to www.butlerbrothersmx.com next weekend for our San Diego Race Day Blog for all the lats news and photos from the day and night show. Until then, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot!

San Francisco, CA- In front of a near sellout crowd in San Francisco California, the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team experienced the agony of defeat after many weeks of great results in the AMA Supercross series. The teams riders, Shaun Skinner in the 250 class and Matt Boni in the 450 class both failed to qualify for the main event. It was especially gut wrenching for Boni as he had made every main event thus far in the series, one of only two privateers to have done so.
Skinner in his heat race, before being landed on. Photo: Chris Weedon
Skinner was in qualifying spot when he got landed on by another rider. His helmet was cracked and Shaun was dazed pretty good. " I usually don't pitch sponsors products after a crash, but I am 100% sure that in this case that the new FLY Formula helmet that Skinner was wearing saved his head from a major injury. The helmet did more than its job and Skinner was able to walk away after having his head landed on by a 200 plus lb motorcycle. Thank you to the FLY guys for keeping him safe" reported team manager Forrest Butler. When contacted for a quote for this all Shaun would say was "I race motorcycles?"
Boni with Kyle Partridge sucked up in his rear wheel. Photo: Vitalmx.comBoni was on it in the heat but went off the track after colliding with defending sx champion Chad Reed and knocked out of a qualifying spot. He got back on it and was working hard to get back into the main when he sucked another rider up into his rear wheel. As you can imagine the bike stopped and he was done. In the LCQ he didn't get the jump and was dealing with the approximately 2 million dollars of riders in salaries that were in that race. He tried his best but came up short, the team was out of the main events and the tears flowed. Not really but that sounds good. The tears subsided when one of the teams sponsors, Bel-Ray, threw a really cool after party for the guys.

Denny Stephenson is a former Suzuki factory rider as well as the 1990 AMA 125cc East Region Supercross Champion. He’s still involved in motocross, working for Connexions Motorsports Group and riders like Josh Grant, Trey Canard, Jimmy Albertson and Jeremy Lusk of FMX fame. We had originally hoped to have Jeremy McGrath take us on this track walk, but the King of Supercross banged himself up pretty good riding over the weekend, so we called Denny in and asked him to channel his inner-Jeremy and tell us about the Anaheim 3 track and this weekend’s Monster Energy/AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. “This is like the Excite-Bike track!” joked Stephenson. “I even pulled up the old Excite-Bike website to see where Jeremy came up with some of these jumps. This is a busy track! It will be a nice change of pace from what we’ve seen the last couple of weeks with smaller tracks.”

 | This month's Bel-Ray featured product is Bel-Ray's Foam Filter oil. Air filters and oils that saturate them basically do two things: stop dirt and pass air. The most important aspect is stopping dirt. Don’t let dirt, dust and water slow you down, use Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil to keep you on the winning track. PROVEN PERFORMANCE Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil is formulated with our proprietary low solvent technology to offer the highest level of engine protection in all conditions. It has been tested and proven to outperform the competition by flowing more air while stopping the most dirt—a combination that makes it completely unique. MAXIMUM DUST PROTECTION Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil provides the highest level of protection from dirt ingress, the most important feature of any air filter oil. Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil is designed to be a very tacky foam fi lter oil and is without a doubt one of the best products on the market for protecting engines from dust and contamination. MAXIMUM AIRFLOW FOR MAXIMUM POWER Although Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil has the highest level of protection, it’s also one of the highest air flowing foam filter oils available today. When you combine the testing results of air flow versus protection, Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil performs better than any other fi lter oil on the market. The colors on the chart demonstrate how each product does that job; blue bars are excellent, yellow are so-so, and red bars are not so good. Obviously, you want a blue bar oil. Next is airflow. Obviously, an oil that flows air at a higher rate and continues to do so while being loaded with dirt is the most desireable. This performance metric is demonstrated by the height of the bars; the taller bars are better. To pick the best air filter oil, you combine the two factors and look for the oil with the tallest blue bar. Bel-Ray is quite obviously the winner by those criteria. LOW SOLVENT TECHNOLOGY Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil contains a very low level of solvent to ensure proper filtration of the incoming air charge and consistent application. Our low solvent content formula delivers more product per package, unlike many others where the solvent can account for up to 50% of the entire bottle. TOTALLY WATERPROOF Unlike many other filter oils, Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil is totally waterproof and resists ingress of water better than any other filter oil on the market today. Not only does it completely displace water, but it won’t gum or clog if water gets into the air box. | the surface tension of the water bending downward, which wouldn’t be happening if the water was being absorbed into the filter | | The inside of the filter is dry after being dunked in water . | BETTER AIR FLOW AS THE CONTAMINATION BUILDS UP Our air flow rates are substantially better than other high tack oils as the contamination builds up during use. As dirt builds up on the filter, air flow rates from some of the very tacky filter oils drop dramatically, greatly reducing performance. Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil holds its air flow rates up to 3 times longer than other tacky filter oils; at the same time keeping contamination levels much lower than the thin solvent oils—the perfect balance of performance and protection. How to apply Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil properly: 1. Start with a clean, dry foam filter 2. Spray a thin, even coat or apply an generous amount of Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil on the filter. 3. Work the oil through the filter as shown, squeezing out any excess oil. Never twist or wring out the filter,as you may tear the foam. Make sure you achieve even coverage. 4. Allow Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil to set up for 30 minutes before riding with your newly oiled filter. | | | For more information about Bel-Ray and their products, visit www.belray.com | |
