DNA Energy Drink / BTOSports / BBMX team riders are extremely excited about the new hometown race in Jacksonville. "They couldn't have picked a better city to add to the series, the stadium is awesome and it should pull a huge crowd, just like Atlanta" says team rider, Jason Thomas. Jason and his teammate Kyle Keylon, put on a great tandem charge last week in Toronto, both coming from hang ups in the first turn, climbing their way up to 12th and 13th. Both Shaun Skinner and Bryan Johnson have been trying to ride through some nagging injuries, Johnson's was bad enough to sideline him for the race in Toronto last weekend. Hopefully the week of rest paid off, and he's ready to join his teammates to put on a great show for their hometown crowd.
Please log onto  www.jacksonvillehi.com or call (904) 854-8000 to book your reservation today. Posted 9:30am - Rd. 13 of the AMA Supercross series goes international this weekend, as we cross the northern border and head up to Toronto, Canada.  This was the scene last year of the BBMX podium sweep in the Lites class, where Shaun Skinner took his and BBMX's first ever Supercross victory.  This year the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX team looks to repeat history this weekend, as Jason Thomas and Kyle Keylon are ready to take the Lites class.  Shaun Skinner is riding the 450 this weekend, but is ready to take his '08 Toronto victory experience to the 450 class.

Toronto is a crazy place.  With the Rogers center in the heart of the downtown metropolis, the CN tower right next door(regarded as one of the modern seven wonders of the world!) and the Harbourcenter a few blocks away, the Toronto round is very unique.

The track this weekend is back to normal after last weekend's video game inspired St. Louis track of Travis Pastrana.

Posted 3:00pm - With practice session one done, BBMX riders Jason Thomas, and Kyle Keylon are on pace, with JT topping his qualifying session.  Keylon looks good on the fast deteriorating track.  The track is sandy and is rutting up deep, but the Dirt Werks crew is keeping it groomed.

In the Lites class, Christophe Pourcel is on top of the charts at the moment, and in the 450s Chad Reed put down a fast lap to top James Stewart and Jason Lawrence.

Practice session two will start here in 25 min.  Stay tuned for more info after practice #2.

Posted 5:25pm - With second practice over, the field is set for tonight's race. BBMX riders Jason Thomas and Kyle Keylon had good sessions, with JT qualified in the 11th position and Kyle qualified in the 15th position.  Look for both BBMX lites riders up front tonight.  In the 450s, Shaun Skinner is firmly in the field.  Shaun is looking good and is looking to have some good luck here tonight in Toronto.

In the Lites, Wil Hahn rode well in the second practice to take the top qualifying spot in front of Austin  Stroupe and Christophe Pourcel.  Last week's winner Blake Wharton is in 4th spot.  In the 450s, Josh Grant grabbed the top spot with James Stewart and Chad Reed rounding out the top three.  With the track very soft and deteriorating quckly, tonight's race is going be one you don't want to miss out on.

The mechanics are getting the bikes ready for tonight's event, so be sure to log back in for all the racing action from Toronto.

Posted 11:00pm - As the gate drops on the first of the heat races, Kyle Keylon rockets out of the gate to grab the holeshot in the Lites heat one.  Kyle would lead the first lap, but a few mistakes would put him back in 4th.  Battling being sick, Kyle made a late race mistake that cost him a position and he finished heat one in 5th.
Jason Thomas started up front in the Lites heat two and battled for a top five spot most of the race.  A few mistakes in the nasty ruts put him back in 7th place.  JT would finish in 7th and a straight shot to the main event alongside teammate Kyle Keylon.

In the 450s, Shaun Skinner would battle a bad start in his 450 heat race.  He could not move forward and had to go to the LCQ.  Skinner would get a good start in the LCQ, but could only manage a 5th place finish.

The Lites main would see both BBMX lites riders Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas suffer bad starts and would battle forward.  Kyle would move up at one point to 11th position, with JT in tow in 12th.  JT would eventually make a late race pass on Keylon, who was running out of steam.  JT would finish 12th and Keylon in 13th.

The mains saw Christophe Pourcel take the win and the East coast Lites championship tonight in Toronto.  Congrats Pourcel for a great season in the East coast lites.  In the 450s, James Stewart took the victory over Chad Reed and Josh Hill.  Stewart would take over the lead from Mike Alessi who grabbed the holeshot in the 450 main event and never reliquish it.  James is doing what he needs to do to win the championship.

As the lights dim down on another Toronto SX round, the teams pack up and head back south to Jacksonville, Florida for round 14 of the AMA Supercross series.  The Jacksonville round is another homecomming for the BBMX team, so be sure to join us next weekend.  Until then, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot!

DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX SX Team Take St Louis by Storm!

St Louis, MO- As the AMA Supercross series trudges on across the country, two things have become abundantly clear for the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team. One is that diesel prices coming down is a good thing and two is that we need to get electric start on our bikes.

Kyle Keylon, heat race one, where he finished 6th.
Kyle Keylon.  Photo: Chris Weedon

This week our beloved Kyle “I’m not Kenny dammit’ Keylon fell while just outside the top ten and, just like last week when Bryan Johnson struggled starting his bike, the same fate befell Kyle. There he was on the track just kicking and kicking and kicking…

Jason Thomas, number 45 in your program but 5’5 on the height chart, finally showed us what he could do with a stupendous ride in the main. As usual JT never stopped charging and when the checkers flew, he finished twelfth. Which is quite a bit better then the last few weeks for you that are scoring at home.

Finally, Kyle got his bike started but was a lap down and credited with an eighteenth place in the 250 main event. Kyle is still in the top twenty points and we think he’s having a good season on the smaller 250 bike despite being the height of two JT’s stacked together.

Shaun Skinner, 450 heat race one, St. Louis 09

The other team riders, Shaun “Mr” Skinner and Bryan “Rick” Johnson both hurt themselves early on in the day. Johnson banged his knee up in practice and attempted to ride the heat, but had to withdrawal for the night just 2 laps in. Skinner had a bad get off in practice and banged his knee up, and then whacked his wrist on the 1st lap of the heat race. Shaun struggled to hold onto the bike for the heat and LCQ & ended up 9th in the LCQ. They are both non serious injuries and we hope to see them in Toronto this weekend.

 "Spirit of St. Louis"

BBMX pit area, St. Louis 09

Posted 8:00am - Round 12 of the AMA Supercross series rolls up the Mississippi from the big easy to the gateway city of St. Louis, MO.  St. Louis is known for many things; the gateway arch, Boeing aerospace plants, and beer as St. Louis is home of Anheuser Bush brewery.  But this weekend, St. Louis is the center of the Supercross world.  With a crazy track designed by the one and only TP199, Travis Pastrana.  Travis liked what he saw on paper so much, he decided to throw his helmet in the ring and suit up to battle with the regulars of the AMA supercross series this weekend.  Yes...you heard right, TP199 is going to race here in St. Louis!  What a treat as anytime Pastrana gets on the track it is sure to be exciting.

BBMX riders Kyle Keylon, Jason Thomas, Bryan Johnson and Shaun Skinner are ready to tackle the TP199 designed track.  Kyle has put his bad night at New Orleans behind him and is now looking forward to the crazy St. Louis track.  JT is ready for St. Louis and to actually finish the main event.  Last weekend a mechanical failure at the start of the Lites main tarnished his otherwise good night.  Bryan Johnson's been on it in qualifying, but bad luck has hindered him in the night program.  Bryan is ready to turn things around here at St. Louis and put all that bad luck behind.  Our lone 450 rider, Shaun "Skin Dog" Skinner is ready to put his DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX CRF450R into the main event this weekend.  While he did enjoy the RacerX gas card last weekend, he much prefers a slot in the main event here in St. Louis.

As the mechanics get to work preparing the bikes for tonight's race, the BBMX team is no doubt prepared to tackle St. Louis.

The track this weekend here in St. Louis is straight from the crazy mind of Travis Pastrana.  We will see things this weekend that we have not seen on a Supercross track in a long time, or even at all.  The over/under bridge is back, and we are using the under side this week!  The start straight will have a unique look to it as well.  Click the link below to let Travis Pastrana himself explain the track he has created for the riders to do battle on this weekend.

Posted 12pm - As track walk finishes up, the riders meeting is taking place.  The TP199 designed track is definatly different from anything we have seen this year.  I'll go so far as to say it looks like Travis took the track design straight out of the MX Untamed video game!  The berms are straight up and down walls, the jumps are huge, the whoops are all odd sizes, and true to Travis' form, there is a 96' triple set up that has a step-on as the run-up!  It's one knarly track and will be a great show tonight.  The dirt is hard, and the wet spots are slick as glass.  I feel the track will get worked in nicely for the night show though.

One omission(or rather two) from the original track map.  The two jumps on the start straight are not a part of this track.  A shame, as it would have been something to see those guys tackle two jumps down the start straight.
Check out the photos below for a good walk around the track.

Bryan Johnson, Practice sesison one, St. Louis 09
Bryan Johnson.  Photo: Chris Weedon

As the first practice session finishes up, BBMX LItes riders Kyle Keylon, Jason Thomas Bryan Johnson are looking good.  Bryan Johnson posted the 19th fastest lap time in the lites class, while JT is in the 21st spot.  Kyle is sitting in the 31st position, but look for him to move up as he gets more comfortable with the TP199 track.
BBMX rider Shaun Skinner is in the field as well in the 450 class, sitting in 29th.  Skinner looked to have the TP199 designed track down in the later part of the session, so look for him to move up in the standings in the second session.

The Lites qualifying session saw a battle for the top spot between Nico Izzy and Matt Lemoine.  Izzy would edge out Lemoine and grab the top spot with a 47.82 over Lemoine's 48.09. Christophe Pourcel rounds out the top three and Austin Stroupe follows in fourth.

The 450 class saw a three way battle for the top qualifying spot between James Stewart, Chad Reed and Josh Grant.  Stewart would grab the top spot with a 45.20, while Reed and Grant round out the top three.  Jason Lawrence is sitting in 6th, but looked very fast.  Watch him move up in the ranks in the second session.

TP199 St. Louis SX 09
Travis Pastrana - Photo: Chris Weedon

The man of the weekend is Travis Pastrana.  As the 450s group B practice session got underway, cheers from the crowd followed TP199 around the track.  Travis looked fast, but did not put in a fast lap as he is sitting in 36th position.  He would stop on the start straight to size up the 96 ft. triple that no one has done yet.  "It's do-able and I intend to do it" exclaimed an excited Pastrana during track walk earlier.

It is really interesting to see the new sections get worked in.  I think the top lap time will not go any further, but the racing is going to crazy tonight.

Practice session two is set to take off in 20 min.  Be sure to check back for a summary of practice session two around 5pm.

Jason Thomas qualified 16th for St. Louis, 09.

Posted 6:00pm - With the practice sessions done, BBMX riders Kyle Keylon, Shaun Skinner and Jason Thomas are firmly in the night show.  JT is the top qualifier for the BBMX Lites team as he is in the 16th spot and Bryan is right behind him in 17th.  Kyle is sits in the 21st position.  Look for the trio tonight to be battling out front.

Shaun Skinner is in the 450s night show, despite tweaking his knee in a crash during practice two.  He will be ready tonight, as he is icing the knee. Shaun is in the 32nd spot for tonights event.  Shaun is going to give it his all tonight and hopefully make it into the main.

Christophe Pourcel sits on top the Lites board with Austin Stroupe and Nico Izzy in tow.  Matt Lemoine sits in the 4th spot. In the 450s, James Stewart dug deep to put hisYamaha on the top of the 450 charts in front of Chad Reed and Josh Grant.  JLaw qualified in 7th and the wild man...Travis Pastrana qualified in the lucky 13th position.

Questions will be answered tonight.  Will TP199 actually survive the heat races and if he does...will he survive the mains?  Will Chad Reed be able to take one from James Stewart tonight?  All this and more will be answered tonight.  Be sure to check back for the post race summary of all the action here in St. Louis.

Posted 9:00pm - The heats and LCQs are done.  BBMX riders Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas qualified from their heat races to the main event.  Kyle rode hard in Lites heat one, and at one point was in 4th position.  A bobble relegated him to 6th place, but still a transfer spot to the main.  In Lites heat two, JT overcame a bad start to finish in 7th for a qualifying spot to the main event. Bryan Johnson could not overcome a bad start.

It was not the best night for Shaun Skinner.  Skin dog could not find a start tonight in both his heat and the LCQ.  Another tough night for Skinner.

In the 450 heat races, Chad Reed took the win in Heat one.  Heat two saw James Stewart crash twice, once while in the lead.  James would recover and finish 9th to make the main.  TP199 crashed as well, and had to go to the LCQ.

The 450 LCQ saw Davi Millsaps and Kyle Chisolm making the main, but all eyes were on Travis Pastrana.  Travis overcame a bad start, and bullied his way into second.  He battled with Jake Marsack a little too hard, busting his radiator in the process, ending TP199's night.  But what a race!

The mains are set and the freestyle demo is going off.  Log back on for the main even recaps.

Posted 10:30pm -
The Lites main saw BBMX rider Jason Thomas finish 12th after a start in the back of the pack. JT rode had, but could not find that little extra to push further.  Still, JT finished a main and now can put that behind him.  Kyle Keylon would run as high as 13th after a back of the pack start, but a late race crash would put him down to finish 18th.  A so-so night for the BBMX team.

Blake Wharton would win his first ever Lites main event tonight, as Austin Stroupe and Nico Izzy could not catch Wharton.  Wharton lead from start to finish to take the win.

In the 450 class, Chad Reed takes another victory away from James Stewart.  James would lead most of the main, but crashed on the top of the over/under to hand Chad Reed the lead.  Chad walked away with the win, with James in second and Josh Grant rounding out the top three.

As the teams pack up and head out of the Edward James Dome, the memories of the racing here tonight echo through the stadiums halls.  The AMA Supercross series rallies up north and across the border to our great northern nieghbors of Toronto, Canada next weekend for round 13.  Toronto was the scene last year of the BBMX podium sweep, with Shaun Skinner claiming victory in 08.  Will it be another BBMX podium sweep for 09?  Join us next week for the answer and whole lot more on the BBMX race day blog.  Until then, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot!

New Orleans, LA-The AMA Supercross tour rolled into the Big Easy this weekend and with that, I’m already out of New Orleans slang terms. The DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX team experienced everything a team could this weekend. The emotional lifts of Jason “Baby Smurf” Thomas and Bryan “Don” Johnson in the 250 main to Shaun “Mr” Skinner being in qualifying position in the 450 heat race are examples of why we go racing.

The crushing lows were Johnson crashing in the main and his bike taking 1,269 kicks to restart, Kyle “I’m not Kenny” Keylon crashing in the first turn and not qualifying, Skinner missing the main event by one spot (although he did get the Racer X gas card for his troubles) and Thomas’ motor letting go when he reached the second turn in the main. Last week his throttle broke in the first turn and this week he made the second turn, so next week we are shooting for the at least the fourth turn! Hey, a team can dream right?

“I’m happy to be back in New Orleans but you know those bags of mixed nuts where you get the peanuts and M&M’s and you’re happy but then the next handful you get some weird-ass nut that you don’t like?” said team manager Forrest Butler “I feel like early on I was getting nothing but M&M’s and then by the mains, I was getting cashews. And I hate cashews”

When asked for a comment after the race, team rider Shaun Skinner said “Look, I don’t want to talk about the race, I have a bag of beads and I’m going to Bourbon to forget it.”

Posted 9am - Round 11 of the AMA Supercross series heads this weekend to the birthplace of Jazz music, the city of New Orleans, LA.  The AMA Supercross series returns to the Superdome for the first time since 2002.  With Hurricane Katrina ravishing the city in 2005, New Orleans has cleaned herself up, and is ready to host the 2009 Supercross series.

In BBMX team news, Kyle Keylon rolls his way into N'arlins(as the locals affectionately call their city) with two 10th place finishes in a row under his belt from Indy and Daytona. Keylon fought hard for his 10th place in Daytona and is ready to continue his streak of top 10 finishes. Could Kyle break into the single digits this weekend?

Look for Jason Thomas and Bryan Johnson to turn their luck around this weekend in the Superdome.  Bryan did not make the main last weekend in Daytona, and JT had technical difficulties at the first turn of the Lites main event, lawn darting himself head first into the first turn berm.  While things have not gone as planned for JT riding the Lites bike, he is still having fun and is looking forward to battling it out.

Shaun Skinner is back in action this weekend on the 450.  Skin-dog will be looking to grab another holeshot but this time without bike issues spoiling the fun.  Shaun is ready and has been putting in the laps during the week, so look for him in the mix.

The New Orleans Supercross track is a good design for the return of Supercross here in the land of gumbo.  The dirt is tricky, and if it is anything like the past,  it is a mixture of clay and other hidden debris the riders will have to negotiate.  The track will get rutted and will force the riders to ride with the 'A' game on Saturday night.

Practice is set to go off at 12:30pm here in New Orleans, so be sure to check back for all the team action on and off the track.

The weather outside the dome is wet...pouring rain.  It is so bad outside dogs are floating away.  Some of the teams are electing to still pit outside, while the others are pitting inside.  The BBMX team is pitting inside the dome today.  Practice is underway, so look for an update after practice session one.

Posted 3:30pm - With practice session one done, BBMX riders Kyle Keylon, Jason Thomas and Bryan Johnson are sitting in qualifying spots.  Kyle Keylon is in 17th qualifying position with JT$ right behind him in 18th in the Lites class.  Both are riding extremely well and are having a good time on the track.  Bryan Johnson is sitting in the 28th spot in the lites class
Shaun Skinner is sitting in the 26th qualifying position in the big bike class.  Look for Shaun to move up in the next session as the BBMX team dials in his bike.

In the rest of the field, Christophe Pourcell tops the Lites class in the number one qualifying spot with a 53.3 sec lap time, five tenths faster Martin Davalos in second and a full second faster than Nico Izzi in third. IN the big bike class, James Stewart tops the charts with a 51.4 second lap time, Chad Reed sits in second with a 52.0 second lap time and Kevin Windham showing it up for the hometown fans sits in third.

Jason Lawrence injured his ankle on Thursday and will not be racing tonight in New Orleans. His agent, Scott Sepkovic, told us that we can expect to see J-Law back in action in St. Louis.

Posted 4:30pm - With the Lites field set, BBMX rider Bryan Johnson set a flying lap to put his DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports.com/BBMX bike in the  , qualifying 8th overall going into the night with a 54.82.  JT was on it also qualifying only .9 seconds behind him in 18th.  Kyle Kelyon, while on it in first practice, had some troubles in second practice, and is sitting in 33rd qualifying position.

Shaun Skinner is still trying to get used to the 450 in the most competitive class in SX history, he qualified in 26th position and should be fine with a good start tonight.  I wouldn't count out a holeshot tonight from Skin-dog.

James Stewart was fastest, but only by .6 seconds over Chad Reed which is a lot closer than its been since the 1st 2 rounds this season.  It should def make for some good racing tonight!   In Lites, Pourcel was rediculous fast....51.89 which was only .4 seconds behind James and .2 seconds FASTER than Reed!

The track conditions are good.  The dirt is tacky, much like the Indianapolis track from a few weeks ago. It should be a good night of racing.

The mechanics are prepping the bikes for the tonight's race.  Be sure to log back to the BBMX race day blog from New Orelans for the action on and off the track.

Posted 8:30pm - As the Lites heats finish up, Jason Thomas rode a strong heat race to finish 6th in Heat #1.  That givs JT$ a quick pass to the Lites main event tonight.  The Lites Heat #2 had Bryan Johnson and Kyle Keylon, and started off with a first turn pile-up that collected Keylon.  Bryan Johnson got out of the first turn unscathed and rode in the 5th place spot for most of the heat until settling into a qualifying spot in 7th.  Keylon could not recover from his first turn and finished 18th.  Keylon will have to go to the LCQ.

Shaun Skinner came up a bit short, finishing 10th in the SX heat #1.  Skin-dog will have to go through the LCQ to make the main event tonight.

The Lites heat races were won by Blake Wharton and Brandon Jesseman.  The SX heats were won by Chad Reed and James Stewart.

In the LCQs, Kyle Keylon did not make the main as he could not battle back from a bad start to finish in the 11th position.  In the SX LCQ, Skinner missed a qualifying spot by one, as he finished in the 3rd spot.  Skinner did receive the RacerX gas card.  Skinner rode well and looks like he is getting the hang of the 450s again. Skinner will be back in St. Louis and look for him to make the main there.

The mains are set and the Freestyle show is getting ready to entertain the fans here in New Orleans.

The Lite main was not good for the BBMX team tonight in New Orelans.  Jason Thomas had bike issues from the start and Bryan Johnson was taken out on lap 7.  Bryan would remount but would be a few laps down.  Bryan would finish the main in the 19th position.

Kyle Keylon, Daytona 09. Kyle would finish 10th in the Lites main at Daytona 09.
Kyle Keylon battling in the main to finish 10th in Daytona.

Daytona, Florida- In what amounted to a home race for the DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX race team, the Daytona supercross was mind blowing in the amount of people in our pits munchin on the free food and DNA Energy Drink and the up and down results for the team. Team manager Forrest Butler will be filing for chapter seven after paying for the passes and also seeing a psychiatrist for some mental help after his riders finishes.

First the good-Kyle “I’m not Kenny dammit” Keylon backed up his superb finish of last week with another top ten finish in the 250 class and just like last week, he came from the back to do it. Kyle is really getting some confidence from his rides and despite being six foot two, he’s getting into the 250 class. Jason Thomas number forty five in your program but number one in your heart, went down in the first turn in the 250 final and his throttle got jacked up. We tried to tell him that Hannah would’ve just put the cable in his mouth, pulled on it with his teeth and won, but he was having none of that.

Now the bad- Bryan Johnson didn’t qualify for the main event but looked the best he has all year. We’re behind Bryan and he’ll be putting it in the main here very shortly. Or the beatings will begin. Our 450 rider, Shaun Skinner holeshot his heat race, yes you read that right, but then 3  turns later his bike shut off and Skinner's great start went to a DNF.  Probably from the shock of being ahead of Chad Reed and company. OK, maybe not, but the real reason is even worse; his kill switch wire came unplugged and shut the bike off.  Yes you read that right also, holeshot factory bikes, kill switch malfunction and Skinner's divine luck continues!  He couldn’t recover and didn’t qualify for the main but we’re happy with Skin’s performance as he is just coming back from injury...and hey, he was the fastest guy on the track for the start and 3 turns!

Hello everyone. It’s been quite a while since the SX tour has been back in the N.O. From the 3-D picture, this track looks to have some different sections and obstacles than what we have seen in the previous rounds. Before I break the track down into what I think the riders will do, I must say that the dirt in New Orleans has always been awkward for the riders and will be a factor on Saturday night. It’s a gumbo/clay mix that is notorious for having large chunks of debris hidden beneath. What I’m trying to say is that the dirt is hard to read. It’s a weird color, and traction is always a problem. So, if Bubba doesn’t do the rhythm lanes just how I’ve typed it, don’t blame me. Blame the dirt... Here we go!

Posted 9am - Round 10 of the AMA Supercross series heads this weekend to the sunshine state of Florida, more specifically Daytona beach for the Daytona Supercross.  The Daytona SX is unlike the other 16 rounds.  The race is held during Bike week; The track is set-up on the infield of the famed Daytona motor speedway; The track is more like an outdoor national than a supercross and is one of the toughest races of the year. Daytona is filled with history, and this weekend the Supercross stars will make history again here at this great facility.

Shaun Skinner is ready for Daytona on the 450.

In BBMX team news, Shaun Skinner will be back this weekend riding for the DNA Energy Drink/BTOsports/BBMX team.  Skinner has been out since being landed on in San Francisco a month back.  As our Lites west regular, Skinner will be contesting Daytona in the bigger SX class this weekend.  Look for Skin-dog to give the riders in the SX class a tough time this weekend.

Kyle Keylon is super pumped to be heading to Daytona with a top 10 under his belt this past weekend in Indy.  Keylon rode real strong in Indy and look for him to keep the train rolling with another top 10 in Daytona this weekend.  He has been training hard this week in preperation for the greuling outdoor-style Ricky Carmichael designed track.

Jason Thomas and Bryan Johnson are looking to make a strong comeback after not quite making it work in Indy last weekend.  JT continuing to ride in the Lites class is stepping it up this weekend to give that #45 a good ride.  Johnson is looking for a solid ride to compliment his qualifying sessions he has had the last few weeks.  He has the speed, but staying away from the first turn pile-ups is what he is after this weekend.

The Ricky Carmichael designed Daytona Supercross track looks to be a little glimpse of how the outdoor season will look like.  Designed on the Daytona Speedway grass infield, the track is for sure to rut up, get choppy and rough.  It will test not only the riders mental abilities, but their physical stamina to be strong at the finish.

Practice will get underway here around 12:30pm, so check back for more news from on and off the track here in Daytona.

With track walk done, the BBMX team is suiting up for practice to start.  The track looks very good, with very few changes from last years track.  This year's track looks to be a fast track, and will get rough as the day goes on.  Check out a few photos from this morning's track walk.

Practice is set to go off here at 12:30, so check back throughout the day for practice updates.

Posted 3:15pm - With Practice session one done, BBMX riders Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas are sitting in a qualifying spot, with Kyle qualified in the 13th spot and JT in the 22nd position. In the SX class, BBMX rider Shaun Skinner is sitting in the 25th spot.  Shaun is making some suspension adjustments to dial in the bike better for the rough Daytona track.

In the Lites class, Christophe Pourcel is on top and looking smooth on the Daytona track.  In the SX class, It's a dogfight for the top spot with James Stewart and Chad Reed going back and forth for the top spot.  The surprise of the session was Jason Lawrence setting the 3rd fastest lap time while practicing in the C group session.

Notes:
Both James Stewart and Chad Reed went down twice in practice session one.  They are both pushing the edge of control and looking for the upper hand on each other.

Jason Lawrence only put in 5 laps on the track, but that was enough for the 3rd overall fastest lap time.  If Lawrence actually races tonight, he could be up there battling for the lead.

Posted 5:30pm - Second Practice sessions are done, and BBMX riders Kyle Keylon qualified 13th, Bryan Johnson 14th  and Jason Thomas 20th and are in the field for tonights race.  Shaun Skinner made the SX field with a solid qualifying run.  The BBMX team is ready to take on the Daytona SX track tonight.

The surprise of the afternoon is Jason Lawrence. After placing his bike in the 3rd spot, Lawrence came out and threw it down to take the #1 qualifying spot with a 1:06. Lawrence taunted everyone as he waved his finger in the air saying "he's #1" for the next two laps after he ran his fastest lap. Lawrence looks to be in great form, so lets hope he doesn't come down with a sudden flu so we get to see im race tonight.

James Stewart, Daytona SX 09

James Stewart crashed twice again in second practice, and did not put in a hot lap in the second session.  Stewart looked like he had some trouble with his wrists.

The team is prepping the bikes for tonights race.  Log back on for race news and notes.
It's going to be a great night of racing!

Posted 10:30pm - The heat races saw BBMX riders Jason Thomas finish 9th for a transfer spot in the main in the Lites heat one.  Bryan Johnson would finish behind JT in 10th and would have to go to the LCQ.  In Lites heat two, Kyle Keylon would capitalize on a good start to finish in 6th and transfer to the main. In the Lites LCQ, Bryan would start in 3rd and finish the race in the same position, ending his night.

In thr SX heat one, Shaun Skinner would jump out to the holeshot, but mechanical problems would end his heat race.  Skinner's bike was shutting off as he was crossing the start straight, ending his race.Skinner would get the bike started again, but he would retire with bike problems and to the LCQ.  In the LCQ, Skinner would get a bad start and finish in 10th, ending his night.

Kyle Keylon, Lites main, Daytona 09. Kyle would finish 10th.
In the Lites main, Kyle Keylon would get a good jump battling all the way from 13th to finish the main in 10th.  This is Kyles second 10th place finish in a row.  Jason Thomas "lawn darted" himself, head first into the first turn berm at the start of the Lites main.  The crash would snap his throttle tube in half and JT would finish the main from the sidelines cheering Kyle on to his top ten.  Congrats to Kyle for another top 10 finish.

The Lites main saw Martin Davalos and Christophe Pourcel going at it for the win, with Pourcel taking the lead with 4 laps to go. Pourcel would cross the finish line in first, Davalos in second and Nico Izzy would round out the podium.

In the SX class, a first turn pile up started by James Stewart would take out 7-8 riders and give Mike Alessi and Jason Lawerence the opportunity of the night.  Alessi would hold the lead for 3 laps when Jlaw would hunt him down and take over the lead.  For the next 14 laps, Jlaw would lead the Daytona SX, while Chad Reed chased him down from the back of the pack.  Reed would catch Jlaw at lap 17 as Lawrence was physically spent.  Reed would take the win, while Jlaw held on to second and Davi Millsaps would edge out Mike Alessi for the final podium spot.  Stewart would charge back and finish 7th, minus helmet visor and a bent up bike.

Jason Lawrence leading the SX main, Daytona 09. Lawrence would finish second.

"I showed my sponsors tonight that I am worth the trouble" an exhausted Jlaw would say on the podium.  He rode well all day, and he put in an awesome ride tonight.  Reed rode exceptional and did what he needed to do to win the championship.

As the team packs up, another memorable Daytona SX comes to an end.  The series rolls out of the Daytona International Speedway and heads west to New Orleans for round 11 of the AMA supercross series.  Will Kyle Keylon continue his streak of top ten finishes?  Will JT redeem himself and stay on two wheels?  Will Bryan Johnson make the main?  All these questions will be answered and more next week at the Superdome in N'arlins.
Log on to the BBMX Race Day blog next week for all the race action on and off the track.  Until then, keep it pinned and grab the holeshot!

The RC designed Daytona Supercross track for 2009.  Click for larger version.

For the second straight year, five-time Daytona Supercross By Honda champion Ricky Carmichael has designed the course that will be located in the tri-oval of historic Daytona International Speedway while Mark Barnett, former Supercross Champion and three-time National Champion, will do the construction and maintenance during the event.

“I was thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to lay out the course last year and return the Daytona Supercross By Honda back to its roots,” said Carmichael, who is also known as the G.O.A. T. – the Greatest Of All Time. “The Daytona Supercross has always had a special place in my heart and I’m looking forward to seeing what drama unfolds in this year’s race.”

“We’re excited to have a legend such as Ricky Carmichael lay out our demanding Daytona Supercross By Honda course again,” Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said. “The initial feedback from the riders about last year’s course was positive, but the adverse conditions limited the riders’ ability to show their talents. We’re looking forward to again seeing the world’s greatest Supercross racers battle for supremacy at Daytona.”

The Daytona Supercross will be held on a new day during Daytona 200 Week By Honda – Saturday night, March 7. The Daytona Supercross By Honda, which was previously held on a Friday night, will now be held on a Saturday night, which is a traditional day for all AMA Supercross events on the schedule.

Kyle Keylon was key for the BBMX team in Indy.  Photo: Chris Weedon
Indianapolis, Indiana- The AMA Supercross series trudged along to the brand new Lucas Oil stadium in the circle city of Indianapolis Indiana this past weekend. The packed throng of fans saw DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX rider Kyle Keylon score an impressive tenth in the 250 main event. It was a career high for the not so little guy as he battled through the pack from seventeenth position on the first lap all the way up to tenth.

Kyle’s dad, Kenny who is a former AMA 250 national winner and spins the wrenches for his son had this to say “As a former national winner, I’d like to be able to say that I also tuned a rider to an AMA win also which would put me in elite company with…pretty much no one else in the world. Kyle did ride pretty well though.” “I’m extremely happy with my ride and pumped that I could do this well for the team, I also think the DNA Energy Drink that we ran in the fuel tank helped out a ton” said Keylon afterwards. “Kyle rode great and we cannot wait to go to Daytona this week to hang out on the beach all week and look at girls. We might even go to Daytona for the supercross” says team manager Forrest Butler.

DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports.com/BBMX’s other team riders, Jason Thomas and Bryan Johnson didn’t fare quite as well as they failed to make the main event but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. JT came back from a bad start in the LCQ to almost make it and if the old format that took four out of the LCQ was in place he would have made it. Not that we’re bitter or anything like that. Johnson was just happy to leave Indianapolis and we won’t talk about his race at all.
